Homecoming Dresses Don’t Have to Cost a Fortune

With everyone worried about the economy, spending hundreds of dollars on homecoming dresses and finery has some teens rethinking their budgets. Although many schools make a big fuss out of the annual event, this year many high schools across the country are canceling the event or scaling it down as some students are having trouble finding the cash for the usually-extravagant affair. If your school is still hosting the event but you don’t want to spend a fortune, consider these price-savers:

    1) Consider used dresses from friends or from consignment shops. These often cost far less than retail but offer lots of selection and high quality. As an added bonus, some of the retro styles available from these sources are really quite fun.

    2) Go online. Online stores sell discount dresses for very little and deliver right to your door. The selection of new and used homecoming dresses can’t be beat. Just give yourself enough time to have the dress delivered to you.

    3) Look for dresses with small imperfections. If you are buying a new dress, finding a dress with a snagged zipper or a slightly ripped hem can mean a huge discount. Ask the store manager how much they might be able to reduce the price. Then, look for someone who can repair the dress inexpensively or free.
