    Formal Dresses When You’re Expecting

If you are pregnant, it is possible that none of your formal dresses fit. This can be especially daunting around the holidays, when it seems that many parties require some form of evening dress. This means that you will likely need to head out shopping for maternity formal dresses. Don’t let it scare you – today’s formal dresses for pregnant women are worlds away from the drab tents of years ago.

When shopping, consider going online, if you have enough time before your formal event. In general, maternity stores carry only a smallish selection of formal wear (although at this time of year they cannot more party dresses than usual). Online, you can find dresses in every style, shade, and fabric. You may need to get an item altered to fit your body exactly (since you can’t try the pieces on) but this is often a very small price to pay for feeling confident and happy at those holiday parties.

When shopping, keep in mind that empire waists are often very flattering and very comfortable. Full-length, sweeping gowns look positively regal and can help you hide flats. A v-neck or low neckline often calls attention to your bust line and face. Look for fabrics that feel wonderful against the skin and make you feel like a million dollars – you certainly deserve it.
